Carlos Cruz-Diez

Carlos Cruz-Diez has created a Dazzle Ship in Liverpool as a part of both the Biennial and in recognition of the centenary of the start of WWI. The idea of the patterns was to confuse the German submarines as to the speed of the ships. No one can prove that it worked, but I'd like to think it helped.

The thing that struck me when taking these shots was that everybody involved loved the idea.  There was a webcam set up so Carlos could see the progress.  The painters were well in to it - they all came from Cammell Laird and they loved the exercise of shifting the pattern along the ship.
